Varvel F RD32 Coaxial Reducer - Output Shaft Ø32 x 80 mm

Ref: F RD32 Ø32

Part of the RD series from Varvel, an Italian manufacturer renowned worldwide for its expertise in industrial power transmission, the FRD32 coaxial gearbox is a mechanical solution designed for demanding production environments. Its role is to convert the high rotational speed of an electric motor into a slower motion, while multiplying the available output torque to efficiently drive the machine's components.

The solid keyed output shaft of Ø32x80mm offers a generous bearing surface, perfectly suited for direct mounting of pulleys, sprockets, drums, or flexible couplings. Combined with an axis height of 115mm, this gearbox meets the most common dimensional standards in the industry, which considerably simplifies its integration as a replacement or for initial installation.

With a maximum output torque of 420 Nm and no less than 23 available reduction ratios, ranging from 2.25 to 63, the FRD32 adapts to a very wide range of applications: conveyor lines, continuous production machines, automated equipment, cyclical drive systems. Each ratio allows for fine adjustment of the output speed and the level of transmitted torque, without compromising efficiency.

Connection to the electric motor is made via a standardized IEC input flange, in B5 or B14 configuration, for IEC 71, 80, 90, 100, and 112 frame sizes. This extended compatibility allows for immediate implementation with standard market motors. The integrated flexible coupling absorbs shocks at startup and dampens occasional overloads, thus preserving the lifespan of the entire kinematic chain.

The Varvel FRD32 gearbox accepts two types of mounting depending on the installation configuration: foot mounted B3 for mounting on a chassis or frame, or flange mounted in Ø160mmØ200mm or Ø250mm for direct and compact integration onto the receiving machine.

Why choose the Varvel F RD32 gearbox — Ø32mm output shaft?

For more than 60 years, Varvel has been designing and manufacturing mechanical transmission solutions in Italy for the most demanding industrial markets. Gearboxes, gearmotors, transmission components: every product that leaves Varvel workshops is the result of proven expertise, rigorous technical mastery, and a constant commitment to equipment durability. It is this reputation, built on the ground with thousands of industrialists worldwide, that makes Varvel a trusted brand for all power transmission professionals.

Within this range, the RD series holds a central place. These helical inline gearboxes stand out for their inline architecture, high efficiency, and modular design intended to facilitate integration, limit maintenance interventions, and adapt to the most varied configurations. The F RD32 model, with a square shape and compact size, represents the ideal balance between reduced footprint and high mechanical performance.

Technical characteristics of the FRD32 Ø32mm gearbox

Designed around a train of precision-cut helical gears, the Varvel F RD32 gearbox ensures particularly smooth and quiet transmission, with minimal vibration levels and controlled long-term wear. Its main characteristics are as follows:

  • Type : Helical inline gearbox
  • Brand / Series : Varvel — RD Series, size 32
  • Output shaft : solid, keyed, Ø32mm
  • Shaft height : 115mm
  • Maximum output torque : 420 Nm
  • Number of available reduction ratios : 23 ratios (from 2.25 to 63)
  • Housing : square shape, compact construction
  • Lubrication : oil bath, reduced maintenance
  • ATEX version : available on request for explosive environments

Motor compatibility and IEC input flanges

The letter F in the designation F RD32 identifies the presence of a standardized IEC motor input flange, allowing direct connection of an electric motor without the need for intermediate mechanical adaptation. The gearbox accepts motor sizes IEC 71, 80, 90, 100, and 112, in both B5 and B14 configurations.

For IEC 71 size, the B5 flange has a diameter of 160mm and the B14 flange of 120mm. For IEC 80 size, the B5 flange is 200mm and the B14 flange is 120mm. For IEC 90 size, the B5 flange measures 200mm and the B14 flange 140mm. For IEC 100 and IEC 112 sizes, the dimensions are identical: B5 flange at 250mm and B14 flange at 160mm. This extended compatibility allows direct connection of the gearbox to almost all standard electric motors on the market.

Mounting and installation

The Varvel F RD32 gearbox adapts to two mounting modes depending on installation constraints. Foot mounting is suitable for mounting on chassis or machine frames. Output flange mounting offers a compact alternative for direct assembly on the machine, with three available diameters: Ø160mm, Ø200mm or Ø250mm. In both cases, the standardized shaft height of 115mm facilitates replacement and interchangeability with equipment of the same size.

23 available reduction ratios

With 23 reduction ratios ranging from 2.25 to 63, the F RD32 offers a granularity of choice rarely equaled in this size range. The available values are: 2.25 — 2.82 — 3.55 — 4.46 — 5.18 — 5.61 — 7.09 — 7.72 — 8.92 — 10.06 — 11.22 — 12.37 — 14.17 — 15.44 — 17.84 — 20.12 — 22.44 — 25.26 — 28.34 — 31.76 — 35.68 — 44.68 — 63.00. Whether the application requires a slow output speed with high torque or moderate-speed transmission, there is a ratio suited to every need.

What applications use the F RD32 inline gearbox?

The versatility of the Varvel F RD32 makes it a component used in a wide variety of industrial sectors. In the food and beverage industry, it equips conveyors, mixers, and packaging lines where reliability and operational hygiene are paramount. In the agricultural and machine tool sectors, it ensures precise and durable transmissions on equipment subject to intensive work cycles. The building, construction, and energy industries — solar trackers, wind turbines — also use this type of gearbox for its robustness and adaptability. More broadly, it integrates into any system of industrial automation, robotics, or material handling where transmission precision is a crucial criterion.

Summary of the advantages of the Varvel F RD32 gearbox

The F RD32 packs all the qualities expected of a high-end industrial gearbox into a compact housing: a maximum torque of 420 Nm, a range of 23 reduction ratios between 2.25 and 63, extended IEC compatibility from size 71 to 112 in B5 and B14, a dual mounting option by feet or by flange in Ø160, Ø200 or Ø250mm, and a standardized shaft height of 115mm. Its modular design simplifies spare parts management and maintenance, while its helical gears ensure quiet operation and optimal efficiency throughout the product's lifespan.
